I've given you the wins. Now here's what Anthropic's marketing materials won't tell you.

Web app reliability hovers around 50-60% for complex interfaces. Simple web forms, search bars, static pages — Claude handles these fine. Final Cut Pro and advanced creative tools are unreliable. The source material for this article mentioned video editing as a use case. I tested it. Claude opened Final Cut Pro, identified the project, and attempted to detect silent sections for removal. It partially worked — it found some silent gaps — but the execution was inconsistent enough that I wouldn't trust it with a real editing project. Here's my honest ranking after testing multiple platforms: Perplexity Computer produces the most polished output for research-heavy tasks. For my workflow, Claude wins because I handle client data that can't leave my machine. That single constraint makes the decision for me.

If the output is consistently useful, add more scheduled tasks gradually. Don't automate everything on day one — you need to build trust in the system through repeated small wins.

Pro tip: Create a dedicated "Claude Workspace" folder on your Desktop where all Co-work outputs land by default. Mention this folder in your Co-work instructions: "Always save output files to ~/Desktop/Claude Workspace/ unless I specify otherwise." Who Should Actually Use This (And Who Should Wait)

Skip entirely if: Your work is purely web-based and already covered by existing AI integrations. If you live in Google Docs and Slack and those connectors handle your needs, computer use adds complexity without proportional value.

Two things will determine whether Claude Co-work's desktop automation becomes genuinely indispensable or remains an impressive demo.

First: reliability on dynamic web interfaces. The 50-60% success rate on complex web apps needs to hit 85%+ before I'd trust it with client-facing workflows. Anthropic is actively improving this — the research preview label tells you they know it's not production-ready — but the gap between "works on simple apps" and "works on everything" is enormous.

Second: Windows support. macOS-only limits the addressable audience dramatically. Enterprise adoption — where the real revenue lives — requires cross-platform support. I expect this within 2026, but Anthropic hasn't committed publicly.
